Just came across the Statistical Office for the Republic of Slovenia webpage, definitely worth a look if you're on a time-killing mission, www.stat.si/eng/
One of the stats that I found isn't one that will be anything new to any of you as it is something that has been splashed around the local press recently and also around the local blogs. It is a stat that will lead me on to my question of the day, however. I quote;
| 28.10.2005 |
Population, 30 june 2005 |
|
In the middle of 2005 the number of population of Slovenia exceeded 2 million (2,001,114) for the second time ever. The major reason for this was positive net migration of foreigners. On the Slovenian territory the number of population was higher only on 30 June 1991.
What I want to know is, how many of these more than 2 million people are men from other countries lured here by the love of a Slovenian woman? And no, I don't mean just 1 Slovenian woman that is bringing everyone here. Ah, you know what I mean! It seems that every single ex-pat guy that I come across is here for one reason and one reason only; "Um, my wife is from here." Or "Oh, you know how it is, you meet a girl and the next thing you know you're living in Slovenia." I am no exception to the rule. Is this because our own home-grown women don't quite cut the mustard or is there more to it that meets the eye? Is this a plan by the Slovenian government to increase the population? A kind of honey-trap set-up? Is my wife-to-be actually a highly paid agent of the state? And let the paranoia begin..... |

This woman may be German, Austrian, English, or from one of many other countries. Is it women like this that are responsible for the mass exodus of so many of the world's bigger countries?
